Courtney, a Charleston native, attended Ashley Hall School, an all girls school in Downtown Charleston for 15 years before receiving her Bachelors of Science from Clemson University. She is now a Physician Assistant in Dermatology and practices in the greater Charleston area. She discovered a love for sourdough baking during her first year of PA school as a creative escape from the demands of coursework and clinicals.
What began as a personal hobby soon became Charleston Sourdough Starter—a way to make sourdough baking approachable, enjoyable, and rewarding for all skill levels. Courtney believes baking is more than just making bread; it’s a mindful, hands-on tradition that fosters connection and well-being. She is excited to share her hand-crafted, Lowcountry-inspired starter and help others experience the joy of sourdough baking.
Each package includes 30 grams of sourdough starter, detailed and beginner friendly instructions for care, and a tried-and-true sourdough recipe. We recommend having bread flour, a mason jar, and a kitchen scale at the ready.
